ABOUT

ORIGINS OF THIS COURSE

his new multidisciplinary course teaches the management of patients presenting with emergency abdominal conditions to acute hospital. The inaugural EASC was held at the Donegal Clinical Research Academy, Ireland in May 2012. The initial premise for this course was to focus on decision making in patients with common emergencies in a multidisciplinary learning approach

STRATEGY OF THIS COURSE

Designed by Donegal Clinical Research Academy, this course in conjunction with World Leaders in Emergency Surgery developed strategy based upon probability, decision making and surgical technique.  In short, the curriculum deals with common surgical abdominal emergencies. EASC instructs the clinician on how to identify the diagnosis, outline a clear management plan, and be aware of tips and traps for each condition. This practical approach is supplemented by the latest International medical literature.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THIS COURSE

​The course has been highly acclaimed by most clinicians and rated by many as the best course they have attended in their medical careers. First run in Letterkenny in 2012 and then in Dublin in 2103 and 2014.  International collaboration and endorsement has occurred between different Societies, Colleges and Universities and it is recognized as one of the world leading courses in Emergency Abdominal care.  It has been run in Portugal, Spain, Greece,  Sri Lanka, Brazil, Canada, Poland, New Zealand In 2020 the course will be run in Australia  and India. There are 3 levels to the course, medical student sEASC , trainees  EASC, and a new advanced course aEASC

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THIS COURSE

These award winning  courses outline the management of common abdominal surgical conditions to facilitate learning and understanding of how patients with appendicitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, and diverticulitis should be managed.  These are common conditions accounting for over 10% of all admission  in hospitals worldwide.
​The course is based on short state of the art lectures, unique case scenarios with specially designed manual and audio visual material. The course used a unique interactive method of teaching allowing doctors and nurses, who participate, to be confident in the day to day management of common life threatening emergency abdominal surgical conditions.  
The course is about the real team usually lead by the Surgeons working together to get the patient better
